A&E Air Conditioning and Heating will come out on an urgent call whenever help is needed. However, while we believe our call-out fees are very fair, we like to go one step further and make sure that what we may be called out for can’t be easily fixed by yourself.

Of course, we are not talking about making any repairs or doing anything technical – that could cause further damage and would also be dangerous for anyone other than a qualified HVAC unit engineer or technician.

What to check for if there is a problem with your HVAC unit

• Check the power supply to the HVAC unit. Some systems are independently wired to the central fuse circuit in your house. It may be that the circuit to your HVAC unit has tripped, leaving everything else in your house working as normal.
• Check that nobody has been fiddling with or altering the settings on the thermostat. We often find this is the case when two occupants of a dwelling have different preferences for the ambient temperature. Also check the thermostat is working – some are battery operated and that may be all that needs changing.
• Next step is to check the registers and air filters. If these become blocked with dust, your HVAC unit can overheat, and the automatic safety cut-out may be activated. Most HVAC filters require changing every day.
• Finally, check the external element of your HVAC unit to make sure that air is flowing freely around it and that the control valve is switched to ‘on’.
