Here at A&E Air Conditioning and Heating we cannot stress strongly enough just how important smoke detectors are in your home. However, if you also have a gas furnace or a woodburner in your home, then you also need to give serious thought to the installation of carbon monoxide alarms as well. Approaching 500 people in the U.S. die each year from carbon monoxide poisoning, while nearly 50,000 people present themselves at an emergency department suffering from the effects of carbon monoxide poisoning.
Once installed, both smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors are easy to maintain, and usually only require the battery to be changed once a year. We say once a year purely as a precaution – it’s all very well checking your alarm after a year and if it works, the battery may be fine – but that doesn’t mean to say that in a week or two after, it won’t start “blipping” to indicate there is a problem.
Just as you may have your flue checked, you furnace or AC unit checked over once a year, you should have your smoke alarms and carbon monoxide alarms added to that checklist.
In addition, if you haven’t got a carbon dioxide alarm fitted but think it makes sense to do so, we are proud to be official distributors for smoke alarms and carbon monoxide alarms and have been installing them in the Texas region for many years. We cannot recommend them highly enough and considering their reasonable cost of installation, peace of mind comes at a very affordable price.
